In depth
The Hybrid 225 is a plug-in hybrid with a 12.4 kWh pack and about 64 km WLTP electric range (manufacturer figure, indicative). The WLTP consumption of around 1.2 l/100km applies only with a full battery; with an empty battery the 408 drives as a 1.6 turbo petrol carrying battery weight, closer to 6.4 l/100km. Indicative starting price, check the official configurator.
About the Peugeot 408 Hybrid (2024)
Independent spec and rating reference. No offers, no sales.
The Peugeot 408 came to market in 2022 as a crossover fastback: somewhere between the 308 hatchback and an SUV, on the same EMP2 platform. The Hybrid 225 is the top variant of the petrol range: a 1.6 turbo combined with an electric motor on the front axle, 225 hp system power, fed by a 12.4 kWh battery. WLTP electric range is around 64 km (manufacturer figure, not measured by us). Charging is on alternating current; there is no DC fast-charge connection.
In practice
WLTP combined consumption of around 1.2 l/100km is a PHEV calculated figure that only holds with a full battery at the start of the cycle. With an empty pack the 408 consumes like a 1.6 turbo petrol that carries the battery, owner forums report figures between roughly 6.5 and 7.5 l/100km depending on trip and motorway share (not measured by us). The 471 l boot is somewhat smaller in the PHEV than in the petrol version because of the battery placement. Braked towing weight is 1,300 kg. The indicative list price stands at 45,490 euro, a starting price, not an offer and not a forecast.
Points to note
The fuel economy score depends strongly on charging behaviour (utility factor); without a socket at home or at work much of the PHEV advantage disappears. Equipment differs strongly per trim; verify boot capacity and battery exactly at the official dealer because Stellantis publishes slightly different figures per market.
