About the Alfa Romeo Tonale Plug-in Hybrid (2024)
Independent spec and rating reference. No offers, no sales.
The Tonale Plug-in Hybrid Q4 combines a 1.3 turbo petrol on the front axle with an electric motor on the rear axle, together around 280 hp system power and in practice four-wheel drive. The 15.5 kWh pack delivers about 69 km electric WLTP range (manufacturer figure, not measured by us). Charging is via alternating current; there is no DC fast-charge connection.
In practice
The WLTP consumption of 1.4 l/100km is a PHEV figure that applies only with a full battery at the start of the measurement cycle. If you drive with an empty battery, the Tonale consumes like a 1.3 turbo petrol SUV of well over one and a half tonnes; that is considerably higher, depending on charging behaviour and trip (owner forums, not measured by us). Fuel economy therefore depends strongly on how often you charge. The indicative list price rose from about 50,490 euro (reference date early 2024) to 52,490 euro now, a starting price, not an offer and not a forecast.
Points to note
The 385 l boot is smaller than on the non-PHEV because of the battery pack under the load floor. Braked towing weight is 1,500 kg. The low WLTP consumption translates to practice only with consistent charging; without a socket at home or at work the bulk of the PHEV advantage disappears. Check equipment and exact battery capacity at the official dealer.
