ADAC Pannenstatistik
Annual German breakdown statistic based on roadside-assistance call-outs, used as a reliability indication per segment.
The ADAC Pannenstatistik is the annual breakdown statistic of the German automobile club ADAC. It is based on the actual number of roadside-assistance call-outs for breakdowns, traced back to model and model year and related to the number of vehicles in that segment. It is thereby a failure measurement based on registered breakdown cases, not a customer-satisfaction or repair-cost survey.
The statistic has known limitations. It mainly reflects the German market and ADAC members, usually covers a delimited model-year range, and very young or rare models are absent or have too few cases for a reliable figure. A flat battery through user error counts as a breakdown, while a garage visit without a stranding is not visible.
We use ADAC data as one source for the reliability rating, at segment level and always with source and reference date. If there is too little data for a model, we show "n.b." instead of a derived score. The methodology page describes how this source weighs into the rating.
