Drivetrain & battery warranty
The factory warranty on the engine or drivetrain, and on EVs a separate, longer battery warranty with a capacity threshold.
The drivetrain warranty covers the main components that drive the vehicle: on combustion engines the engine and transmission, on electric cars the electric motor, power electronics and the battery. It often runs longer than the general vehicle warranty and has its own conditions, such as servicing to schedule and mileage limits.
For the drive battery of EVs and plug-in hybrids a separate warranty usually applies, in the market often around eight years or a mileage limit, with a capacity threshold: the manufacturer guarantees that the usable capacity does not drop below a certain percentage (often around 70 percent) within that period. Normal, gradual degradation above that threshold usually does not fall under warranty.
Conditions, terms and thresholds differ per brand, model and model year and can differ per market. Where we have these values we show them as a manufacturer statement; the exact conditions for a specific vehicle are in the manufacturer's warranty terms.
