Euro NCAP safety

Independent crash test with stars and sub-scores; the standard tightens per protocol, so the year belongs with it.

Euro NCAP is an independent European test programme that assesses new cars on crash safety and accident prevention. The outcome is a star score (maximum five) built up from sub-scores for adult occupants, children, vulnerable road users and safety assistance. The individual percentages often say more than the stars alone.

The test protocols are tightened periodically. A five-star score from an older protocol is therefore not equal to five stars under a more recent, heavier protocol; the test year always belongs with the score. Not every variant or model year of a model is tested separately, and sometimes a score applies to a specific safety equipment.

We show NCAP results with test year and protocol and, where relevant, the sub-scores instead of only the number of stars. The score is from Euro NCAP, not measured by us; we do not compare across protocols without naming that.
