Who they are

A short write-up on each car, one paragraph apiece. We describe them on their own terms rather than picking a winner.

Profile · Long Range AWD (2024)

Tesla Model Y

Electric mid-size SUV, technically related to the Model 3. Strong points are the charging speed (up to 250 kW) and the large luggage volume (854 l incl. underfloor bin and front boot). WLTP 533 km with the 75 kWh pack; owners report 15-25% less range in winter (public forums, not measured by us). Braked towing weight 1,600 kg (manufacturer figure).

Profile · Twin Motor Performance (2025, off-road-trim)

Volvo EX30 Cross Country

Off-road styled variant of the Volvo EX30 on the SEA platform (shared with the Smart #1). Unveiled in 2024, with European deliveries from 2025. Available only as Twin Motor Performance (dual-motor AWD) with a 69 kWh gross / 65 kWh net NMC pack, around 427 km WLTP and 315 kW (428 hp); 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds (manufacturer figure). Ride height raised by 19 mm, more rugged bumpers, skid plates and wheel-arch extensions versus the standard EX30. DC charging up to 158 kW; 318 litre boot, 1,600 kg braked towing capacity. Indicative starting price for the Dutch market.
