Registration document

The official registration document with the binding vehicle data, issued in the Netherlands by the RDW.

The registration document is the official registration document of a vehicle. In the Netherlands the RDW issues it, since 2014 as a registration card, and it belongs to the European harmonised registration documents. It records which vehicle belongs to which registration and which technical and legal data apply to it.

The document and the associated RDW register carry, among other things, the date of first registration, the masses, the permitted towing weights, the drivetrain and the type-approval data. In a conflict between a general manufacturer statement and the registration document, the registration document of the specific vehicle is leading: variants and model years differ.

The specs on this site are model-wide manufacturer and register statements, meant for comparison. For the legally valid values of one specific vehicle, for example the maximum towing weight or the exact mass, the registration document and the RDW vehicle register are the source.
