Hatchback
A compact passenger car with a tailgate that runs up into the roof, without a separate boot lid.
A hatchback is a body style in which the tailgate runs up into the roof and opens together with the rear window as one unit. There is therefore no separate boot lid as on a sedan; the luggage space sits in the same compartment as the rear seats and can be enlarged by folding the rear bench down. Variants exist as five-door and, less commonly, three-door.
The form dominates the European B and C segment because it combines compact exterior dimensions with practically accessible luggage space. Examples are the Volkswagen Polo, Renault Clio and Toyota Yaris in the B segment, and the Volkswagen Golf and Peugeot 308 in the C segment.
On this site "hatchback" is a factual body-style label on the spec sheet; it says nothing about drivetrain, price class or rating. For luggage space you compare the boot volume under the VDA standard, not the body style itself.
