Our ratings & sources
How the category scores are formed, why there is no overall score and which sources we use.
Questions and answers about our ratings & sources
- Why don’t you give an overall score or final verdict?
- An overall score suggests that one weighting is right for everyone and comes close to a “best choice for you” statement, which we deliberately avoid. We show separate category scores from 0 to 100 with source and reference date (peildatum), so you weigh the categories yourself. The approach is set out in the methodology.
- What do the 0 to 100 scores per category mean?
- Each category gets a relative score within the segment, based on comparable models and a fixed yardstick. The score shows its source and reference date (peildatum); “n.b.” means insufficient data for a sound score. It is a ranking, not buying advice.
- Which sources do you use for the specs and scores?
- OEM datasheets and EU type approval for the specs, supplemented with RDW registration data and ADAC test data, plus moderated owner reviews for the real-world picture. Each score states source and reference date (peildatum). The full account is set out in the methodology and on the transparency page.
- Are the ratings influenced by affiliate income?
- No. Scores come from specs and moderated reviews, not from commercial arrangements. Any affiliate deeplink on an orderable model does not change the score and discontinued models have no commerce link. We sell nothing and show no offers; see transparency.
- How often are the scores updated?
- Specs and scores are revised when a manufacturer changes data, a new test source becomes available or the model range changes. Each score carries a reference date (peildatum), so you see how current a figure is. We do not claim real-time prices or stock.
- Who writes the editorial content?
- All editorial content has one byline: Dennis de Kruijf, for all markets. There are no external authors. The background is on the about page.
No tax or financial advice. Every figure shows its source and reference date. Always compare with an independent adviser and the official source. Source: OEM datasheets + EU type approval + RDW + ADAC; the reference date is listed per figure.
